Are you planning to have surgery in São Paulo but live far away? One of the first questions is: how long do I need to stay here? ✈️
This depends on the surgery, your recovery, and the distance to your city. In procedures such as lipedema surgery, for example, we may need 10 to 15 days to monitor the first follow-ups and ensure everything is progressing well.
If the trip is long or by plane, the planning needs to be even more careful.

We receive many patients here who come from other cities to have surgery with us, and they want to know how long they have to stay in São Paulo for their surgery. So, what I usually say is that it will depend a lot on where the person lives, what the route to get there will be, whether it will be by car, whether it will be by plane, and what ease they would have to return here to the office after they have left, in case there is any need. So, all of this will weigh in when knowing how long they will stay here. But, in a general way, a lipedema surgery, for example, they have to stay here in São Paulo, at least about 10 to 15 days after the surgery, because in the beginning the post-operative sessions are more intensive and it is that moment when I will verify if there is any early complication, any fluid accumulation, any problem, any small point of infection, something that I will need to intervene. So, usually the patient has to stay here in São Paulo until they make a first or a second return, which is between 10 to 15 days before leaving. In cases of surgery that have incisions, the person has to stay here until at least we remove the surgical glue to see that the incision is all ok, if it needs any dressing care that I can also guide, to release the person to go home safely. Also, you have to think that if the person is going to take a long flight to return to their residence, they have to think about who will continue the post-operative care where they are, so if it is another country in this case, and they also have to wait about 3 weeks to avoid a risk of thrombosis due to the long flight. So, all of this we have to align and consider when knowing the time they will stay here in São Paulo.
