Nem toda mastopexia precisa de prótese. Guia rápido:

Not every mastopexy requires an implant.

Not every mastopexy requires an implant. Quick guide:

Without implant (using your own tissue):
• More natural appearance.
• Less long-term maintenance.
• Less projection in the upper pole.

With implant:
• More projection and fullness in the upper pole.
• Requires periodic follow-up.
• May require replacement/revision in the future.

How to decide?
• If you seek naturalness and only lifting/redistribution: tends to be without implant.
• If you desire a more defined upper pole shape: tends to be with implant.
The final indication depends on the examination, skin quality, history, and goals — we align everything during the consultation.

Should I have a mastopexy with or without an implant? So, as with everything in plastic surgery and in life, there are advantages and disadvantages to following one path or the other. In mastopexy without an implant, we use the person’s own tissues; we arrange this shape to make it rounder, but we know that the density and consistency of breast tissue are different from the consistency of an implant. So, if you are looking for a shape that, in the long term, has more definition in the upper pole of the breasts, aesthetically it is better to opt for a mastopexy with an implant. If you want to restore the shape of your breast in a more natural way with your own tissues, mastopexy without an implant would be the answer. And what would be the disadvantages of opting for a mastopexy with an implant? In mastopexy with an implant, you will have a foreign body. So, you will have to do some maintenance with periodic exams, you are subject to the behavior of that material, which may have some rejection by your organism. You may have, after a few years, capsular contracture and the need to have surgery to replace this implant. Eventually, it may suffer rupture, making the replacement of this implant necessary. Depending on the technique you use, you may have some alteration in the positioning of the implant in the medium-to-long term, also requiring revision surgery. And you will always have a more tense post-operative period in terms of worry about not wanting at all costs for there to be any wound dehiscence. Because if you have wound dehiscence, you may have exposure of this implant and the need for removal for subsequent repositioning, which is a complication we never want to happen, but we have to take this into account too when we choose between the techniques.
