Not always is surgery the best decision at that moment. And recognizing this is also part of responsible care.
Before any surgery, it is necessary to understand what is motivating this choice, align what is possible to achieve, and evaluate if the person is prepared for the entire process.
When there is external pressure, expectations incompatible with reality, or lack of preparation for the post-operative period, waiting can be the safest decision.
If you are thinking about having plastic surgery, schedule your consultation and let’s talk!

It is much easier for us to say yes, to agree to a surgery, than to say no. But, as we develop experience, there are some situations where we know the best thing is to say no. So, of course, in addition to clinical contraindications, where the patient is not in clinical condition to undergo surgery, there are five situations where I say no to plastic surgery. The first is when the person seeks surgery to meet or please the opinion of another person. An example: she fails and my husband said I needed to fix this, or my friend said I should get liposuction. So, in all these situations, I say, if it is not bothering you personally, it is better not to touch it. The second point is if the person is insecure and not sure they want to have the surgery. If you are not sure you want to have the surgery, you can think more about it, come back in a month, two months, when this decision is well settled. It is not something you have to do in a hurry. So, I prefer to say no to a surgery at one moment so that the person comes to have the surgery at the right time. A third situation where I do not recommend having plastic surgery is when the person is going through very turbulent times, whether in their personal life, psychologically, or in their body. So, it is good for the person to understand what is happening in all their spheres and reach a balance. Do not have surgery when there is a very big change in our life, someone in the family having problems, relationship changes, uncertainties regarding your job, for example, or even uncertainties regarding why I am gaining weight, why I lost so much weight. All of this is very important to be stabilized before surgery. One of the most important situations to contraindicate a surgery is when the person has unrealistic expectations about the procedure. Or when I believe that the procedure will not be able to bring the improvement the patient expects. Sometimes they do not understand their body very well, what the possibilities are, where surgery can reach, and this is one of the main reasons for me to contraindicate a surgery, to tell them. Look, instead of having a surgery that will not meet your expectation, direct that energy to something else. To have the surgery when it will really bring the improvement you expect, be aware of a realistic expectation for the procedure. And a last point, and not less important, is when the person does not understand what the post-operative period of plastic surgery is like, which is very important to know that surgery is a serious procedure, that it has risks of complications, that can happen even if the procedure goes with all normality, that the person will need to take care, care with the scar, care with post-operative physiotherapy, so all of this is essential for the person to have this understanding. So all of this is very important to be aware of before having plastic surgery.
