New techniques and instruments constantly emerge in plastic surgery. (1/2)

New techniques and instruments constantly emerge in plastic surgery, and it is natural to ask: does this really add to the outcome, or is it just another trend? The breast funnel is one of those resources that has gained ground and, in fact, can bring important benefits. It reduces the contact of the implant with the skin and gloves, decreasing the risk of bacterial contamination; facilitates implant placement through smaller incisions; better preserves the integrity of the prosthesis by reducing friction; decreases the effort required by the surgeon, making the placement more delicate; and can reduce tissue trauma during the procedure.

But it is essential to be clear: the funnel is not mandatory and does not completely eliminate any complication. In situations where the incision is already sufficiently wide and the implant enters easily, it does not add real advantages, just as in mastopexies where they will be placed through sites other than the inframammary fold.

The success of the surgery does not (never!) depend on the accessory, but rather on the refined technique, careful planning, and the experience of the surgeon.
