Luxury, glamour, ostentation, wealth. Expensive dinners and first-class trips to the best places…

Perhaps for a while, this was the image many had (and some still have) of the plastic surgeon: lots of glamour and little stress. Did the media create this image? Did some colleagues try to maintain it, even artificially, at the cost of their mental health, personal and family relationships?

The truth is that the plastic surgeon is, above all, a doctor who works hard, studies hard, and is a normal human being with their joys, sorrows, worries, successes, and frustrations. Bills, calluses on the feet, and dark circles (eventually, haha)…

We have a great power to transform, and at the same time, a huge responsibility. What guides us in this mission is the desire to transform people’s lives for the better. It is our greatest fuel and our stimulus to wake up every day. It is what gives color to our lives, and that is why several hours of surgery pass so quickly, and we work so happily.

Seeing the result of our work is the most gratifying thing there is, and I am not talking about a before-and-after photo, but rather the patient’s gaze, renewed self-esteem and self-confidence, feeling that their life has been positively impacted. Sometimes just seeing the person’s demeanor, we already feel that they are different. Without this, nothing would have been worth it, even if all the luxury and wealth were reality.

And what I can ask of God at 9:13 PM on this day when I am still in the office, is that He give me and my colleagues health and light to continue on this path that we live, feel, and constantly breathe. And I thank all patients and families who trust in our work.
