So, why are before-and-after photos not the best way for you to choose a plastic surgeon? My name is Carolini, I am a plastic surgeon, and while I am here in the drive-thru line for the booster vaccine dose, I will tell you a little bit about this. First of all, it is currently prohibited by the Federal Council of Medicine to post before-and-after photos, meaning that doctors posting before-and-after photos is forbidden. Agree or not, opinions aside, it is still prohibited, even though I know some people find a way around it and end up posting, but at the moment it is still forbidden, right? Regardless of this, we know that there are many things you can do when you want to alter a photo, besides filter editing, you can change the light, the positioning, make a feature look more emphasized, or another one more emphasized, and make the pre-operative or pre-procedure situation look worse, or the post-operative situation look better, just with light tricks, and even if the photo has no obvious editing, or use a filter to make that scar look less apparent, so there are many things. We know that photos are not always reliable, and the fact that you look at before-and-after photos can even bring frustration, because sometimes they simulate results that are often not that possible in reality. Second point, if the doctor is going to post before-and-after photos, or if any professional is going to post before-and-after, do you think they will post the one that didn’t turn out so well, or the one that had some complication? Because the fact is that all surgeries are subject to complications, which is not anyone’s fault, not anyone’s error, but it is statistics, at some point a complication can happen, and would that one be posted? Definitely not, if the incision opened, it won’t be posted, if there was some necrosis, it won’t be posted. Another point I want to bring to you is that we know that on social media, we are everything, right? Not everything, but there is a lot of barter out there. So, the person will hardly say anything bad about the professional they are undergoing a procedure with through barter, and we know this very well, right? So, certainly they posted before-and-after, the opinion sometimes will not be impartial regarding this. Therefore, this should not be the argument you use to base your decision, because the person chose that professional through barter, sometimes not even for the qualification, even if they say it is an excellent qualification, sometimes they don’t even believe much in it, right? So, to choose a professional, the main thing is for you to know the professional’s curriculum, formally talk to them, see if they are a person who clarifies your doubts, gives attention, and will be by your side, in all moments, in your post-operative or post-procedure period, right?
