To understand why the abdomen may appear more voluminous, it is important to know what might be happening inside.
Complaints such as having a “high stomach” (which has nothing to do with the poor stomach itself), or looking pregnant, are very common. However, there may be several causes, which can determine whether a specific procedure is indicated for your case or not.
SUBCUTANEOUS FAT: The most superficial layer, located just beneath the skin. An excess of this fat can be reduced through diet or liposuction.
MUSCULATURE: Muscle laxity prevents the muscles from effectively holding the abdominal contents, causing them to project forward and generate volume. When diastasis (separation of the muscles) is present, the muscular wall becomes even weaker, requiring surgical correction. In some cases, the person’s innate muscle structure makes them more prone to this projection.
INTRAABDOMINAL FAT: Located between the organs, plastic surgery does not act on this area; only diet can reduce it. Therefore, when a patient has a lot of intraabdominal fat, even if plication (suturing) of the muscles is performed, this content will continue to exert pressure, projecting the belly forward or even straining the muscles, much like a garment seam that is stretched too tight.
Often, only a physical examination can identify the problem, so it is essential to have a consultation 😉
